Welcome to 3D TV and Movies.com! A complete guide to 3D entertainment and technology.
We are passionate about 3D TV technology, which is why we have built this site to share what we know and love about it with you.
Years ago we would have never considered watching 3D content anywhere other than a movie theater. Now in 2011 there are plenty of affordable 3D capable TVs that allow us to take that movie-going experience home with us. When it comes time to upgrade your current HDTV chances are the next one will be 3D capable, if it isn't already.
You might be wondering if 3D is here to stay, time will tell on that one but let us provide you with some statistics to support that idea.
In 2010, after just nine months of being on the market, two million 3D capable TV sets were shipped in North America alone. In comparison, it took HDTV five years to sell just a quarter of that amount. There is clearly a lot of interest in this technology.
Let us throw just one more statistic at you:
Recent studies indicate that over 30 percent of US homes will own a 3D capable TV by 2014. This number may prove to be bigger as more and more 3D content keeps coming out.
So, What Is 3D TV and How Does It Work?
3D TV is a term for a display technology that is being incorporated into the latest models of HDTVs. Basically, it lets the viewer see images that have a sense of depth to them. If you have ever seen a 3D movie at the theater, then you can expect the same experience at home with today's technology. You can read more about it here.
3D TV works by displaying two sets of slightly offset images on the screen at the same time. When you put on a pair of 3D glasses your brain puts these two images together to create a sense of depth. Read more about how it works
Only 3D capable TVs are able to do this and only certain blu-ray players are able to play 3D movies. Find out what you need to upgrade.
3D glasses are unavoidable at this point, but they're just a minor inconvenience when you consider what you're capable of watching with them. Most 3D capable TV sets require active shutter glasses but LG TVs use the same kind of glasses you're used to wearing in theaters called polarized glasses.
3D without glasses is not even close to being an option at this time. Find out why.
